Are gay men superior to straight men? What a question! But are gay men truly better than your standard straight guy? I had personally never thought that such a question could even be asked! After all of the discrimination (both on a legal and personal basis) gay men have experienced over the last thirty years, it truly shows that progress has actually been made! The question are gay men superior to straight men? arises of course after Moby during the week, has said that "gay men are superior to straight men". Moby (who I might add at this time is straight), allegedly has no time for heterosexual men and is appalled by the "macho male culture". He has also stated that he hopes that his future children are gay because "they are less likely to get into a fight and less likely to date rape people". "I'm straight but I've grown up around gay people and gay clubs. They are superior to straight people. If you have a gay child you're more inclined to be a prouder parent." These comments that have been made by Moby truly represent that the opinion of gay people is changing, and how contrasting opinions can be. There are a number of ways in which that question can be answered, but which is the true answer? For instance, you can take the bias perspective, and say 'of course we are'! We have had to fight to get to where we are today, and we are truly proud of who we are (and quite frankly, I'm sure that a lot of us don't give a damn about anyone who decides to drive past and shout out at the top of their lungs "queer!"). We, as a group, have been able to accomplish so much as opposed to the straight man, which has had no need to accomplish anything. Any time progress has been made by a gay man or a group of gay men, it makes headlines all around the country. We are emerging as a minority, a successful minority, so it can be quite easily said that gay men are more superior.
However, if you take the moral approach, all men are created equal, and all men should be equal. Just because we are gay, doesn't mean that we are better or worse than a straight man. We all have the same capabilities to excel, it is just up to the individual whether they choose to make a name for themselves or not. In conclusion, are straight men superior to straight men? Well that was Moby's perspective, and I am sure you have your own thoughts on the question. So in this case, the rightful answer is up to you, the individual.
