Blood Diamond is a moving and heartfelt film about family, loosing what you love most, and greed. It focuses on the most important issues that we face in society today. Set during the civil war overtaking 1999 Sierra Leone. Blood Diamond captured the beauty

Dicaprio plays the role of Danny Archer, a very skilled diamond smuggler. After a random meeting in a local bar he becomes acquainted with Maddy Brown played by Connely. Maddy is a cunning, hungry reporter wanting any details that she can to write her articles on what is happening in Africa and what Archer has to do with it.

Solomon Vandy played by Hounsou, is searching for his son who was kidnapped by rebels and feared dead. The three eventually cross paths and believe they can help each other as Solomon claims to know where the very rare black diamond is hidden. Archer only agrees to help him and keep him alive for his own selfish reasons, which soon become evident.

What follows next is something unexpected and very moving. Blood Diamond is not for the faint hearted, but behind all the bloodshed and violence lays a strong human story. Performances were brilliant all round. Even Connely who has never grabbed me much in the past was a good choice for this role. Hounsou is a star on the rise and his performance emotionally moved me while watching this film.
