C.R.A.Z.YDVD - A Beautiful French Coming Of Age Film. C.R.A.Z.Y
Out Now on DVD Madman Entertainment This sweet French Canadian film, set in Quebec tells the story of Zach. He is a gay youth growing up in a somewhat dysfunctional family environment. Even though this film had English subtitles, I was drawn to this movie, which surprised me. I often find the text distracting from what is taking place on screen. CRAZY is a film that will draw you in and capture your emotions in a sweet way. Zach's homosexuality is dealt with in a subtle way. This was a winning point for me as there are to many films that throw the gay issue in your face CRAZY did not do this. The base of the story is between a father and his children. We soon see that Zach is the different one in the family. He prefers to listen to music and escape to his own world rather than play sports and hang out with the boys. Zach wants so badly to please his family, especially his father that this desire gives him nothing but pain. He is unable to gain the full attention that he needs and this causes him to drift further apart from his father and his abusive older brother. The star of the film is the music used. From David Bowie, Patsy Cline and the Rolling Stones, they all create the world that young Zach lives in. A touching coming of age film that will leave you feeling a little teary eyed, CRAZY will make you think about the positive things that we all have in our lives. Marcus Richa
