A fun little film that looks at the pain of dating and all the emotions that go along with it. What can happen when a straight man goes on a date with a gay guy? Will this be the end of his world or will he be open minded enough to see where the night takes him?

Todd meets Kelly through his brother for a blind date. Kelly is actually a guy played by openly gay actor Wilson Cruz. This is Barry, Todd’s brother’s way of playing a practical joke on him. The two become fast friends through their love of cinema. They decide to get his brother back by pretending that they have hit it off, by going home together for a romantic night.

Barry quickly calls his mother and breaks the news that her son is gay. All hell breaks loose when the word gets out that Todd is gay. No matter how much he protests he is straight, his cries fall on deaf ears. As the two become closer it seems that Todd’s mother’s initial beliefs that her son is gay, may just be right on.

Coffee Date is a refreshing look at the typical romantic comedy genre. This film has a good cast with a special guest appearance from 80’s pop sensation Deborah Gibson, who has now become a successful Broadway star. For a great Saturday night with friends I recommend Coffee Date.
