Countdown begins for Australian Idol final

Thousands of people are already at the Sydney Opera House, with the final of Australian Idol shortly to get under way.

On top of the several thousand people already at the Sydney Opera House, more than two million people are expected to watch the live broadcast of the Australian Idol grand final this evening.

Tonight’s final episode of the fifth series of the music talent show will determine whether seventeen year old Matt Corby or twenty-five year old Natalie Gauci will be the next ‘Aussie Idol’.

Bookmakers are predicting that Corby will win tonight’s final, and has been a clear favourite since the finals began.

Signs from fans that have already arrived at Sydney include “Matt, Matt, come to my love shackâ€, “Angels brought Matt hereâ€, and “Matt ... I'm pregnantâ€.

Corby and Gauci will be just two of the performers at tonight’s final, with other acts including the Rogue Traders, The Divinyls and last year’s Australian Idol winner Damien Leith.

The Idol winner’s debut single Here I Am will be available for download immediately after tonight’s broadcast ends, and will be released physically in CD stores on Wednesday.
