Paramount Home Entertainment Jamie Foxx Beyonce Knowles Having been a huge fan of the original Broadway musical, I was waiting for this film for a year before it was released. I can honestly say that Dream Girls was well and truly worth the long wait. Jamie Foxx and Beyonce are not my favourite people alive so I was somewhat sceptical about their performances in this film. There is no doubt that Beyonce is an amazing singer but the real star of this film is ex American idol contestant Jennifer Hudson. Her performance as the third member of the singing group is one to watch out for. This story of Dream Girls is rumoured to be based on the real life group of The Supremes featuring diva Diana Ross. The story is a simple one of a talented all girl singing group who with the help of a local backer played by Jamie Foxx quickly rise to the top of the charts. As fast as they rise, they fall just as fast. The inner group politics and negativity soon comes out and this tears the group apart. The musical score is just as Broadway as you can. The original Broadway show has been playing top packed theatres all over the world for the past twenty-five years. The sounds are a time stamp on the way that soul music was emerging at the time this show was written. The entire cast all do an outstanding job and this easily comes through while watching the film. Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy have some great scenes together, the chemistry between the two of them was surprising good. If you love any kind of Broadway musical you must see Dream Girls. Overall I was surprised how much that I enjoyed this film. Marcus Richa
