Singapore authorities have cancelled a planned forum for gay rights discussion on the grounds that it was contrary to the public interest, the second time in the span of a week that they have banned an event focusing on gay rights.
August 7th was the planned date for the gay rights forum in Singapore titled "Sexual Orientation in International Law: The Case of Asia" in which a retired Canadian professor was to speak. In addition, the speaker's visa application was denied. The organizer of the forum had also organized the planned exhibition of photographs of gay couples, both male and female, kissing, but it was deemed inappropriate by censors in the Chinese city-state. In Singapore it is still illegal to have gay sex, with a maximum punishment of two years jail time.
