HOMOPHOBIA STILL BURNING STRONG IN TODAY'S WORLDHomophobia is still one of the biggest problems in the world today. It has spread across the globe as people continue adding oil to its flame. Recently Uganda had published the names of alleged homosexuals. This comes as no surprise to the Human Rights Watch, a group doing all they could to protect the rights of homosexuals in Uganda. Uganda has passed several laws banning any gay activity and have arrested several others on rumors of sodomy. If any of them were convicted they could receive life in prison. Uganda is only the mere reflection of the struggle that heterosexual people face with homosexuals. In recent decades homosexuals have come out with their sexuality in millions. Society, however, was never prepared for such mass movement. As a mechanism to stop homosexuals from coming out, society has instilled homophobia in the hearts of many. Culture, as well as government encourages the fear of homosexuals in hopes that it will keep homosexuals distances from rest of society. The fear of homosexuals only reveals how closed minded the world is today. Although there have been many people who have come to accept homosexuals as they are, there are still millions more who refuse to acknowledge that homosexuals were born that way, rather they hang onto their theory that people choose their sexuality. There is no clear way to cure homophobia. It has almost become a disease of some sort. However, as long as homosexuals keep living their lives by being true to who they are, and keep fighting for their rights, society will slowly, but surely learn to accept homosexuals and acknowledge them as a vital part in the running of society.
