Hillary Clinton takes first official step towards Presidency

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is closer than ever to announcing her run for the presidency in 2008.



As she comes off a landslide victory holding on to her Senate seat in New York, former first lady Hillary Clinton is reaching for support from fellow New York Democrats incase she decides to run for the White House in '08.

One of Senator Clinton's top aides announced Sunday that she has begun active consideration into entering the race.

"As Sen. Clinton said, she was going to begin actively considering a presidential run after the election. That process has begun," said Howard Wolfson.

Wolfson's announcement only confirmed what many had speculated long ago.

Other top Democrats also considering a run include: Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh , Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina. The Republican contenders are headed by Sen. John McCain of , Former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani and NY Governor George Pataki.
