It's the ladies domain at Homebake

Oh yes its ladies domain, and the feeling's right... women are set to take centre stage at Homebake on 8 December.

Sisters are doin’ it for themselves at Homebake in 2007, with women set to take centre stage at the thirteenth Homebake festival in Sydney on 8 December.

Although there will be many male acts performing at the Domain this coming Saturday, with Homebake’s theme being ‘It’s the ladies domain!’, a very lush ladies lounge will be directly in front of all the action, not to mention the all-female finale to the festival guaranteed to be Australia’s biggest internationally charting female fronted band ever!

Acts confirmed to perform at Homebake include The Divinyls, Missy Higgins, Sarah Blasko, Angus and Julia Stone, Gotye, Paul Dempsey (Something For Kate), Josh Pyke and Operator Please to name just a few.

With the countdown in full swing, Channel [V] personality and Ladies Lounge host Jane Gazzo answered a few questions about what lounge goers can expect from Homebake 2007, and symbolizes the importance of recognizing female musicians.

janegazzoWhich female act are you most looking forward to seeing at this year's Homebake?
Chrissy Amphlett fronting the Divinyls. I was too young to see the Divinyls at their Oz Rock peak in the 80's but I do hold the belief that Amphlett is possibly the most dynamic female performer this country has ever produced.

You're hosting your very own Ladies' Lounge, tell us more about what you have planned?
A lounge of lots of fun! DJ's, high tea (vodka really), comfy couches as well as table and chairs and a chance to come and see us conducting interviews with the Homebake bands. Later there'll be dancing and topless male waiters (well we're still waiting on confirmation about the topless waiters)

What's been your favourite Homebake experience?
My first Homebake in December 1998. TISM, Jebediah, Not From There, The Mavis's, Custard. A great line-up. I also remember almost being jumped on by psycho fan backstage. She was somebody's girlfriend and started hyperventilating when she saw me and asking autographs and photo's in this almost deranged voice. I thought she was going to have a mental breakdown.

Who are you most looking forward to interviewing?
Kisschasy's Darren Cordeaux always gives a great interview so he's always good value. I'd like to chat Bridezilla also. I think they're quite special.

Why do you think it's important to dedicate this year's Homebake to women in music?
Because women are the unsung hero's of the Australian music industry. There are so many working behind the scenes making sure nothing stuffs up. And there are loads of us - we're just not in the key male dominated positions. We're generally in middle management, promotions and publicity. It's a great thing Homebake are saluting these fabulous femmes!

The sold out 2007 Homebake Festival will be held at the Domain in Syndey on Saturday 8 December.

Can't attend Homebake this year? Don't stress! Channel [V] are airing daily specials at 4.00pm from 12 to 14 December, with MAX hosting High Tea from 11.00am on 15 December.
