Sparkling and irresistible Scottish songwriter KT Tunstall has announced two sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne around her performances at the 19th Annual International East Coast Blues & Roots Music Festival in Byron Bay, The 4th West Coast Blues & Roots Festival in WA and Point Nepean music festival in VIC.
With a string of international hits behind her, KT is ready to sweep Australian audiences up in her articulate, accessible, immediate brew of rootsy sass, wistful quandary and after-hours atmosphere. Her Bluesfest side show dates are:
Sydney - Wednesday 19 March - Enmore Theatre | Melbourne - Thursday 20 March - Hamer Hall
Three years ago, KT Tunstall stepped out the front door of her flat in Harlesden, London. She was off to work, and to play. She didn’t go home again until she’d recorded her debut album Eye To The Telescope which wowed the music world with her one-woman blues-stomp “Black Horse And The Cherry Tree”. She went onto tour the world a few times, become a festival favourite from Glastonbury to T in the Park and outsold every other female artist in the UK in 2005. To top it off, she won a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist, landed a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, lent her hit tune “Suddenly I See” to the soundtrack of the film The Devil Wears Prada and the TV show Ugly Betty and watched her songs become staple audition material for contestants on American Idol.
Eye to the Telescope was re-released in February 2006. Within six months, Tunstall’s gritty, soulful debut, was certified gold in the U.S., and her music — a provocative sonic mesh of heartfelt pop, rootsy electric blues, and left-field alt-folk — became omnipresent all over radio, television, movies, and the Internet. ‘Eye’ went on to become certified platinum in the U.S. and quintuple platinum in the U.K., with worldwide sales exceeding 3.5 million copies.
In 2007, KT released her second album, a collection of thumping pop songs and intimate, often mysterious ballads called Drastic Fantastic.
