Kate's first gay press interview!

Since her eviction, Kate has received wide-spread media coverage over her anti-gay comments. queerplanet was given the opportunity to chat with Kate about the "I'm a homophobic" outburst, in her first gay press interview!

Many were deeply offended by Kate's anti-gay comments last week, and plenty just didn't care. We thought best to set the record straight (pardon the pun), and see if the BB evictee really would fall ill at the sight of two guys kissing. Kate was actually excited to talk with queerplanet, in her first gay press interview, and so were we!

queerplanet: Now Kate, since the homophobic outburst, there's been ?Hate Kate? campaigns, anti-Kate polls and a lot of negative talk amongst the Australian gay community ? how did that make you feel?

Kate: I was actually really hurt and really upset, but no fault of anybody's but my own. I don't know how to express how sorry I was, because the fact is I am not homophobic, and I never have been. And it was just a situation where I had two of my closest mates, both heterosexual, who were dared by BB as such. We wrote the dares, but they got turned around.

queerplanet: You made an apology on Monday night's Nominations Show, what sort of role did your publicist and producers play in prepping that?

Kate: I didn't even know that it was even going to be asked. They had no role in preparation for any of that. When I first came out, Carmel had told me what had happened.

queerplanet: In the viewers eye, obviously it's difficult to believe an apology after saying one thing, and then totally changing opinion, in what context did ?I'm a homophobic?, not actually mean ?I'm a homophobic??

Kate: I don't know why I said it, I was just so off put. I was even kissing girls in the house. One of my good friends, Geneva, is bisexual.

queerplanet: A lot of people have a bad impression of you now, do you blame Big Brother for not showing the entire conversation?

Kate: No I can't blame BB, because the thing is, they cant fabricate anything that I have said. It would have been nice if people could have seen before, middle and after ? not just the middle, but that's just the way it goes. I cant be a sourpuss in that way at all.

queerplanet: You also mentioned you had some close gay friends, male and female, have you had a chance to speak with them, or do you know what their reaction was?

Kate: Yeah, and thing was, of course they told me I was an idiot, but they weren't hurt. They know that I'm not [homophobic].

queerplanet: Do you think all the negative press you have received, since the comments were made, was warranted? Or was it hyped up for the sake of a good story?

Kate: This is really hard, I cant express how sorry I am. If I have caused any hurt or any pain to anybody, then I deserve whatever comes my way. So at the same time I'm not going to turn around and go ?poor me?.

queerplanet: Do you think the bad press will affect any possible opportunities for the future with your new found fame?

Kate: I hope not, I don't think it will. I think that anyone who actually knows me, and they would have to if they want me to be involved in any public forum for them, I don't think it will.

queerplanet: Now you had a bit of girl-on-girl action in the house, who was the best female kisser?

Kate: This is really hard but Michelle.

queerplanet: There were some spunky guys in the house, any possibility for a bit of lovin now that you're out of the house and cameras are off?

Kate: [laughs] No, no way. We're to good'er friends.

queerplanet: I asked Dean & Geneva this - there was some speculation that Logan Greg had a few gay tendencies, do you think this was just his metrosexual side showing itself ? or is there something we should know?

Kate: He is completely metro. I don't think there is anything further, but that's for him to say.

queerplanet: So what's Kate's next move? Any hopes and dreams for a career in media?

Kate: I would love to be in the public eye, and in media or presenting or something like that. But if it doesn't happen, its back to study. Either accounting or law, but definitely business.

queerplanet: When queerplanet spoke to Dean and Geneva, they both tipped you to win BB, any disappointment, and what would you have done with the cash?

Kate: Wow, I cant believe they tipped me! Being such a BB fan before this show, I never went in with the intention to win, because I know who votes. So I can't be disappointed.

queerplanet: Who's going this Sunday night?

Kate: I love her to death, but I think Melanie.

queerplanet: And who's going to win Big Brother 2005?

Kate: This is really hard, I think it changes daily, I would really really love to see Timmy take it.

queerplanet: Now some of the queerplanet team and I would like to take you gay clubbing when you're in Sydney next ? what do you reckon?

Kate: Guess what, I'm in Sydney! You guys would take me out? That would be amazing!

queerplanet: Of course we will! Thanks Kate.

Wow, it turns out Kate is actually a pretty cool chick who was sincere in her apology. Just goes to show how much power BB has over positioning the housemates. We're looking forward to taking her for a night out on Oxford Street while she's in Sydney this week.
