Lollapalooza Past and PresentYou've heard of it, but did you ever think you could be a part of it? Join our music reporter Ebonee Lee as she takes us on a journey through Lollapalooza past and present! Lollapalooza is the legendary festival started by Perry Ferrell, lead singer of the popular 90's rock band Janes Addiction in 1991. It ran from 1991 and ended in 1997, what made it special was its eclectic variety of musical acts ranging from rap ,industrial, alternative and punk rock. The event helped archive music history with the breakout of grunge in the 90's. The 1994 lineup had nirvana scheduled however front man Kurt Cobain declined and shortly after died a tragic death. Older bands such as The Ramones and Devo even popped up in 1996. It was revived in 2003 but was cancelled in 2004 due to weak ticket sales. When the 2005 festival came, it unlike previous festivals showed huge increase in the number of acts playing. This year's lollapalooza will be held August 4-6 in Chicago's Grant Park. Gates open at 11am and the event is over at 10pm. Following the trend of 2005 this year's event has even more bands and better yet; more bands being constantly added. Some artists on the line-up are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Common, Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips, Nickel Creek, and Panic! At The Disco, The Violent femmes and even tons of kids acts? such as School of Rock and The Candy Band are expected to play. If you live near the Chicago area take advantage of this opportunity because it may never be in such a nice location again, and if you live in other states take advantage of this opportunity and perhaps plan a vacation to come visit a beautiful gay-friendly city and experience great music.
