Masschusetts Governor asks state Supreme Court to force gay marriage ban on 2008 ballot

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is making every attempt to ban gay marriage in the only state that current allows it. While he is vacating today, his staff made this announcement.

In an attempt to look more conservative with a 2008 presidential run on his mind, the only governor whose state allows gay marriage wants it banned.

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is asking the state Supreme Court to force a gay marriage ban onto the 2008 ballot even if the state legislature votes otherwise. The governor has accused the elected state officials of avoiding the topic.

"The Legislature took an oath to uphold the constitution," said Eric Fehrnstrom, a spokesman for Romney, who spent the holiday in southern California.

"This is no longer just about gay marriage," Fehrnstrom said. "It's about the right of the people to participate in their own government."

Romney has requested that the legislature vote on the issue multiple times, but he has practically been ignored.
