Mauresmo speaks about coming outTennis player Amelie Mauresmo has spoken of her coming out of the closet. What do we know about Amelie Maursemo? She is 27 years of age, a Frenchwoman, and has been dubbed by a number of people as the lesbian of the current tennis world. After receiving harsh criticism in recent years both for her physical stature (being described as half a man), and her inability to win a grand slam, she has proven them all wrong with winning two grand slams last year; the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Mauresmo recently spoke to Louise France of the SMH Newspaper in regards to her coming out. "It was tough." "It was hard. I have never regretted the fact that I came out, but I do regret how I said it. It was too brutal. I could have done it in a much easier way. [Being gay] was no big deal for me. But I didn't realize what a huge story it was going to be." The tennis star has since received letters of thanks from fans helping them with their coming out, and received a message of support from Martina Navratilova.
