Mauresmo speaks about coming out

Tennis player Amelie Mauresmo has spoken of her coming out of the closet.

What do we know about Amelie Maursemo? She is 27 years of age, a Frenchwoman, and has been dubbed by a number of people as the lesbian of the current tennis world.

After receiving harsh criticism in recent years both for her physical stature (being described as half a man), and her inability to win a grand slam, she has proven them all wrong with winning two grand slams last year; the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Mauresmo recently spoke to Louise France of the SMH Newspaper in regards to her coming out.

"It was tough." "It was hard. I have never regretted the fact that I came out, but I do regret how I said it. It was too brutal. I could have done it in a much easier way. [Being gay] was no big deal for me. But I didn't realize what a huge story it was going to be."

The tennis star has since received letters of thanks from fans helping them with their coming out, and received a message of support from Martina Navratilova.
