Much Ado About Rufus

Rufus Wainwright is hitting Aussie shores in '08, and extra shows have been announced to cope with demand!

Due to popular demand, wunderkind singer and songwriter Rufus Wainwright will now play an evening in Hobart – giving Tasmanian audiences an opportunity to witness this eccentric, remarkable and thoroughly entertaining talent live in concert.

The Hobart show is a solo performance and a late addition to the tour which has already seen the first nights at Sydney’s State Theatre and Melbourne’s Hamer Hall completely sell out. Second shows for both cities are on sale now.

The Hobart concert will be held at the Wrest Point Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 6th February 2008. Tickets for Rufus Wainwright in Tasmania go on sale Monday 10th December and can be purchased via the Wrest Point Service Centre on 02 6221 1700.

On the current Elton John tour, Chugg Entertainment added a concert for Launceston weeks after the first dates were announced following successful lobbying by Tourism Tasmania. Chugg Entertainment ran a petition online where thousands of Tasmanians registered, indicating a demand for more live music from local and international artists. You asked for it – and now, you’ve got it.

Rufus Wainwright’s current international tour features a lovingly detailed, musically varied tour-de-force, which has been garnering praise from critics in Europe and The United States. Mick Conmy of the BBC Online said, “This was not just a gig; this was an evening of theatre, drama, and high camp cabaret. His voice wraps you up in a soft comfort blanket of melancholy reverie and the songs ache of passion, angst and warmth. Rufus is the bravest performer I have ever seen and his career trajectory soars ever higher.”

The tour is in support of his latest and fifth album, 2007’s Release the Stars. It’s a gorgeous record which features in his current set list, and has been receiving four-star reviews wherever it lands.

Rufus Wainwright is one of those artists whose appeal continues to grow steadily and yet at a great pace, sweeping up new fans and inspiring his peers every step of the way. For example, what do Michael Stipe, David Byrne, Elton John, Scissor Sisters, Nelly Furtado, Keane, Neil Tennant and K.D Lang have in common? They all love Rufus Wainwright – and live in concert you will too.

Make sure you secure your tickets in Hobart for this very special event.
