Prince William and his girlfriend Kate Middleton have broken up after reaching an "amicable agreement" to end their relationship, it is reported. The Sun - which revealed news of the split - said the pair had found it impossible to cope with the intense pressure on them in the public spotlight. However, it also quoted friends as saying the affair was "doomed" when the Prince decided to put Army life first. One said: "As far as Kate is concerned, William simply hasn't been paying her enough attention." The Prince, 24, and Kate, 25, who he met at St Andrews University, Scotland, in 2001, had been dating for around three years and were widely tipped to marry. Edwards, said to be a friend of the pair, added: "I had an inkling the break-up was coming, but I am still shocked - and upset for William and Kate." The couple's relationship has been under strain since William passed out from Sandhurst as an Army officer last December, The Sun reported. William is training to be a armoured troop commander at Camp Bovington in Dorset while Kate is working as an accessories buyer. Since he started his course in Dorset on March 16 they have seen each other no more than once a week, according to the paper. Duncan Larcombe, the paper's Royal Correspondent, said the second in line to the throne felt he was too young to marry. A spokesman for the young Royal said: "We don't comment on Prince William's private life." Earlier this year, Kate complained about harassment from press photographers, prompting some newspapers to stop publishing paparazzi shots of her.
Kate Middleton could stand to make millions for her story of her relationship with the Prince.
