Internationally acclaimed Ranters Theatre is back in Melbourne to present its latest work Holiday, following the world premiere of Affection in the United Kingdom.   We are constantly being told how to relax, and how to make the most of our leisure time. Do we really need distractions in order to unwind? Can’t we just be? In an exploration of what we don’t know about ourselves, Holiday confronts the notion of relaxation, exposing the hidden anxieties, boredom, personal mythologies, and the private fantasies of two people trying to relax.
On a floating set Holiday brings us more of the raw, immediate, mesmerizing theatre typical of Ranters with new explorations into design and the performer/audience relationship and introducing the use of song for the first time, Holiday is complimented by a contemporary baroque musical score sampling Vivaldi, Corelli and Albinoni,
Established in 1994, Ranters Theatre is committed to producing contemporary, text-based theatre in an urban context. The style is minimalist and non-representational and focuses on the person as opposed to the character, giving performances an improvised feel.   ‘A brutal naturalism, which feeds more like great improvisation than the scripted piece that is. For all this, it is as refreshing and as unmannered a piece of theatre as I have seen.’ British Theatre Guide Dates: Thursday 9 August to Wednesday 22 August (Tue – Sat) at 7:30pm  Preview: Wednesday 8 August at 7:30pm Matinee: Saturday 18 August at 4:00pm Venue: Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall Tickets: Full $28, Conc $18, Preview $10 Bookings: easytix.com.au/artshouse or (03) 9639 0096
