GenQ - For the not so straight individual

Why is it that the most sentient beings on the planet are capable of such beauty, and such despicable evil?

That’s what I ask myself this time; it seems to baffle me that as man we are capable of such atrocities of nature, usually for no reason we hurt, we maim, we kill? The prompting of this train of thought if you’re wondering comes from two articles I read recently.

It was such a good day, a lot of things went right for me and I achieved some spectacular movement towards my main goal in life. While sitting relishing in it a friend sent me an article and what I read twisted a knot in the pit of my stomach.

The first article was from a local news paper saying that a Trinidadian National was murdered on the Belt Parkway in New York, I felt so sad I knew the young man. I was about to tell my mother about him when I got another article.

I am still appalled at what I read, Michael Sandy, the nephew of one of our historically strong and well respected women on my island “Calypso Rose”, was the victim of a vicious hate crime. He was contacted via the internet, and lured into a planned robbery.

Four men between the ages of 16-20, came up with a scheme to ensnare beat and rob this man. The newspapers claimed they offered him sex, this I can neither confirm nor deny (come on people how many of you have gotten hook ups off the net), but the point is these sick bastards with their diseased minds robbed the world of a truly decent man.

As the story goes one of them picked him up, took him to a park where he and the others beat him up badly. While trying to make his escape he ran headlong onto the park way and was ran over. Then they had the audacity to rummage through his broken bleeding body and take his belongings and left him for dead.

Thankfully the police have found these monsters; sadly Michael was taken off of life support.

What I wonder now is if the US Judiciary will go after these bastards or give them a little slap on the wrists. The Republican modus operandi seems to be to go after all gay men vehemently and throw the full weight of the law at them, yet it seems to me that the truly evil people get a little “Don’t do that again ok” pat on the back.

Where has all of the justice in this world gone? When are the Good People going to stop suffering at the hands of the ignorant?

Sometimes this world we live in is truly a sad and morose place.
