Single in the City: Ferris Wheel Love

Do you like someone who likes someone else that person also like someone else? Why is it that the person you like does not like you? And those who like you, you do not fancy? Is love like a big old Ferris Wheel?

Mark likes Matt. Matt likes David. David likes Kevin. And Kevin likes John. That is what I call the love Ferris wheel. It keeps going around and round. Why is it that we never like the person that likes us? Why is it that we like someone else who does not like us but likes someone else? Is there a way to stop this cycle? Is dating just one big Ferris wheel where we never catch up to the person in the next basket?

I was faced with this dilemma. David told Matt that they should just be friends. Meanwhile Mark confessed his love for Matt over lunch. But Matt told me he saw Mark only as a friend. And David shagged some random guy last weekend, even though he has been after Kevin for a few weeks. But Kevin is actually moving to Europe so he does not want to get involved. Are you in the middle of a love Ferris wheel? Is it as simple as wanting what you cannot have?

I needed a discussion with my urban family. The discussion itself became a Ferris wheel. ?When looking for potential partners, we all have a wish list and we look for people that have yes ticks for those items in the list,? said one friend. Another friend says the Ferris wheel is just part of another unexplained social phenomena?.Murphy's Law. That is life? My friend Karen believes that we spend our whole loves looking all over the world for that special soul mate when in reality that person is usually starting us in the face. Could she be right? Could my Mr Right actually be one of my close friends? Should David give Matt a go and see if that friendship can turn into a relationship?

If dating is indeed like a ride on the Ferris wheel how do we get off? Magda thinks that the way to play the game is not to play at all. Magda refuses to date online, ask guys out or worry about dating. She just lives her life and thinks love will be more like a crash in the bumper cars. Maybe she's right. Just wait until someone crashes into you.

So should I tell Matt about Mark? Should I tell Mark about David? Should I get off my own Ferris wheel and wait for the bumper cars. I will settle for some fairy floss!
