Spice Girls and Kylie Minogue debut at top... justKylie Minogue and the Spice Girls have debuted at the top of the Australian music charts with unimpressive initial sales. There was no question as to who would debut at the top of the singles and album chart this week in Australia; the titles belonged to Kylie Minogue with 2 Hearts and Spice Girls with Greatest Hits respectively. But disappointing sales almost saw their latest number ones taken away from them.
2 Hearts from Kylie Minogue has been placed on the digital track chart for a fortnight, and in both weeks of sales, the track has failed to crack the top three. In physical sales, 2 Hearts was outshone by Ricki-Lee whose new single Love Is All Around sold more units, but with combined sales, Minogue was able to cement her tenth number one single in Australia; the most by any Australian female act. The Spice Girls’ Greatest Hits entered at number one, and has delivered platinum status in its first week (70,000+ copies shipped). But surprisingly, the fourth album from the Spice Girls currently sits at only number five on the iTunes albums chart. Lower chart debuts are being felt across the board for the Spice Girls, with Australia being so far being the only country where the hits compilation has debuted at number one. Retailers would be hoping for an increase of the titles as Christmas shopping season begins. In other chart news, Fergie, Sean Kingston, Chris Brown, Avril Lavigne and Rihanna have all made their first appearance in the top fifty with their latest singles, while Guy Sebastian, The Killers, Led Zeppelin, Celine Dion, Matt Tilley and Alicia Keys have all debuted in their top twenty with their most recent records which went on sale last week.
