I was sure in for a treat tonight, seeing the much awaited Spiderman 3 on the world’s biggest screen at the IMAX theatre in Sydney. Not being a huge coming book fan in general I can appreciate the love and respect that fans have for their superheros on the big screen. The best thing about Spiderman 3 is that fans can now see it at the IMAX theatre.

Having enjoyed the first two films, I noticed almost right away the difference between this film and earlier ones. Spiderman 3 is more plot driven that before along with being much more darker overall. The audience can connect easier with the actual story than the smoke and whistles surrounding it in the earlier films.

The main cast are back, but there are also two new additions. Topher Grace plays Venom and Thomas Hayden Church as Sandman. Being as faithful as ever to the original comic book fans will not be disappointed with how these characters come across in the film.

Also somewhat lightening was the romance factor in the film. The love between Peter Parker and MJ is actually believable more so than the earlier films. This is due to the probelms that they must overcome caused by Harry. The script, I found to be a little over the top, especially the dialogue between and MJ and Parker. We all know that Parker is really a nerd at heart with a special gift, but I found myself cringing is some scenes. Does a college student really need to be talking like he has lived 100 lifetimes and is 1000 years old?

As expected the special effects throughout the film are just flawless. Even the highest expectations will be surpassed with this big budget film. Fans will flock to Spiderman 3 regardless of what the press says, but in my opinion IMAX is the only way to experience this brilliant film.
