That time of the month - OctoberOctober on GenQ was the most productive, with the street angels, ARIAs coverage, music interviews and event coverage, not to mention the impending election! I’ve been writing for GenerationQ (formerly queerplanet) for over 4 years in various capacities, but I don’t think we’ve even had such a productive month than the one just past. October saw the GenQ street angels gain momentum, with plenty of response from the community, media, police commissioners and MP’s alike.
With an official meeting already taking place and plans for action to get underway in November, the only thing left for you to do is sign the petition. Please do take the small amount of time to click on and sign your name to a worthy cause. Even if you don’t like in Sydney (I am a Melbournite myself), this initiative is so much bigger than one street. There is violence occurring against queer individuals and groups all over the world and we need to take a stand in order to have it stop. Today Oxford St, tomorrow Commercial Road, and anywhere else where homophobic violence occurs. We have also joined the attempt to find missing gay man Matthew Leveson. In general news, John Howard announced the next Federal election to be on November 24th, and GenQ will be right there with the latest news leading up to the day and updates throughout the count. From what we have already reported however, the future is not looking so bright for the queer community.. but I guess that’d up to the individual to decide. Call it sick, but I did derive some sort of perverse pleasure upon hearing about the Family First member embroiled in pornographic scandal. We also gave you plenty of event coverage, including Godskitchen, Darren Hayes and Melbourne Fringe Festival events, as well as interviews with Joel Turner and John Digweed. Stay tuned to GenQ in November for more event coverage and interview with the likes of Missy Higgins, and Jade Macrae. Speaking of music and events, we were just recently on the red carpet at the ARIAs and in the winner’s room to get the latest from the winners. Stay tuned to GenQ in November for an even more exciting month of news, entertainment, opinion and Lifestyle for the not-so-straight individual!
