The 48th Annual Grammy Awards raises the bar... again. The 48th Annual Grammy Awards show was by far the best in recent years! Top notch from Madonna to U2 to Kelly Clarkson to Kayne and Jamie Fox. See queerplanet's take on the excitement that was Hollywood! Yes another exciting and gratifying Grammy Awards show; even without a Host again this year, it still managed to keep you gripped to your seat from the moment a very Pregnant Gwen Stiffani traipsed down the red carpet, to the uplifting Rhythm and Blues Tribute at the end. Award wise, it was the year of comebacks, Mariah Carry winning three of her five nominated categories for her Emancipation of Mimi, and Green Day taking home the much coveted Record of the Year Award for Boulevard of Broken Dreams. But the night belonged to U2 for their critically acclaimed album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb which gave them a total of five Grammy wins. Bono close to tears, gave one of the best acceptance speeches I've seen to date for their Album of the year win. Maybe Kanye West who earned himself three wins for College Dropout should take note of the effectiveness of being humble. John Legend and Kelly Clarkson were both quite impressive for their first time Grammy performances and wins, each of them earning two awards. Kelly has come such a long way from American Idol and we still have a lot more to see from both of these emerging talents. The performances this year were off the hook!!! Madonna and The Gorillaz set the pace for the performances; throwing down a stellar live performance that showed us just how technologically advanced our society has become allowing an Animated Band to share center stage with the Queen of Pop, (who looks better than most of the Pop up starters that try to vie for her title.) Diversity was the name of the game performance wise, with most genre's getting representation and equal time at center stage, we were given quite a few memorable performances, U2 with Mary J Blidge, Stevie Wonder and Alicia Key's acapella, Coldplay, and the Blues Montage Tribute which closed the show just to name a few. Congratulations to the 2006 Grammy Winners! I must say I am looking forward to next years.
