The Phantom has returned with a vengeance... it looks as fabulous and lavish as it did some 20 years ago!

The Phantom has returned. With a vengeance. The sign outside the theatre says "Anthony Warlow IS the Phantom!" How right it is. This show belongs to Mr Warlow.
He has come back to reclaim the role that he made so famous nearly 17 years ago. The thing about this production is that he is now the right age to play the part. His performance is sublime. His voice is thick and rich and velvety...like a good melted chocolate.
The rest of the cast is great, although I would say that John Bowles, who played the role 10 years ago, is getting a little past his use by date. Although the role doesn't offer much, it would have been nice to see someone a little younger in the role.
Julie Goodwin as Christine (alternate to Ana Marina, who performs Wednesday-Saturday) was superb. Her soprano voice absolutely stunning. It was amazing to see such a young actress with such a mature, beautiful voice. So good that people accuse her of being pre-recorded!
This is the same Phantom we all know and love, unlike the recent smash, Miss Saigon (don't get me wrong. I loved it!), just that they've "tightened the bolts" and refreshed the show, by rebuilding, repainting, resewing. It looks as fabulous and lavish as it did some 20 years ago!
If you're wanting to see the show, you're looking at December/January for tickets.
