Vanessa Wagner stars in Earth Hour EventA drag version of The Inconvenient Truth is being held at the Newtown Hotel tomorrow as a part of creating awareness of Earth Hour to Sydney's gay community. To encourage people to take part Earth Hour tomorrow evening, The Newtown Hotel, one of Sydney's most popular and prominant gay bars has created a drag version of the film The Inconvenient Truth which will be performed during the 'blackout'. The performance will make a statement and send a message to the gay community that it is not just up to one person but the whole community to come together to improve our environment.Â
Earth Hour's aim is to reduce Sydney's carbon emissions by 5 per cent by March 2008. "I thought The Inconvenient Truth was brilliant, it makes you want to do what you can about climate change - and it goes to show that entertainment makes people take notice about really important things like saving the planet. "What is more entertaining than a drag, really?", says the owner of the Newtown Hotel. The performance which stars drag favourite Vanessa Wagner will be lit entirely by hundreds of mini-torches held by the crowd. Owners of the Newtown Hotel are also encouraging their other watering holes to flick the switch for Earth Hour with Kinsellas, The Columbian, Manly's Steyne Hotel and the Shore Club now joining in. "In my career sometimes less light is more. When it comes to Earth Hour, if it's off, you're right on. "I like to avoid fossil-fuel burning lighting as much as I can, I sure we can all have a go at it," says Vanessa Wagner.
