UPDATE: The axing of Big Brother from Channel Ten has been confirmed, with an administration member from Big Brother responding to speculation. "I can confirm Big Brother won't be renewed on Channel 10 in 2009. A statement with more information will be forthcoming."

After eight years on television, Big Brother could shortly be coming to an end, with reports that Channel Ten will announce the ending of the show within the next twenty-four hours.

Speculation emerges after fan site Behind Big Brother, widely known for its discussion of accurate spoilers, reported on the axing of the show, and stated that a media embargo will be lifted at midnight with the official announcement.

Reports from Behind Big Brother have stated that the concept of Big Brother will return to Network Ten, but not until 2010 at the earliest. It is also unsure as to whether the program would be a part of the Endemol Southern Star franchise.

Ratings for Big Brother have again slowly decreased throughout the year, but have taken a mid season hike with Playboy cover girl Pamela Anderson spending time in the house this week; Big Brother’s Wednesday night special was the second most viewed episode of the series with 1.4 million viewers.
