Britney Finally Goes to Court

LOS ANGELES - Celebrity Web site TMZ.com reports that Britney Spears showed up nearly two hours late for her 9:45 a.m. deposition today in her custody case with Kevin Federline, but left after just 14 minutes of questioning.

“The deposition proceeding did go forward today. It was scheduled for 9:45 to 11:45,” Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline’s attorney, told reporters. “However, it wasn’t able to commence until 11:32.”

“You can imagine in 14 minutes there’s not a lot of time to develop questions,” he said. Kaplan said another deposition will be scheduled.

Wearing a hot pink dress and sunglasses, Spears, 26, drove off from Kaplan’s offices Thursday in her white Mercedes-Benz as building security guards dashed across the driveway to keep photographers on the sidewalk and off the property.

Spears was originally scheduled to be questioned yesterday, but was a no-show. Sources told TMZ that her absence was a factor in her lawyers’ request yesterday to withdraw from the custody case.

Her attorneys were present for the very abbreviated deposition.

Spears also missed a scheduled deposition related to the custody of the former couple’s two children — Sean Preston and Jayden James — in December over an illness. She was later spotted out in Los Angeles the same evening.

Kaplan said despite Spears’ missed deposition, he did not want to see her reprimanded.

Federline has temporary custody because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.

The Associated Press, Access Hollywood and TMZ.com contributed to this report.
