Blonde on the rocks has decided to go monthly from March!! This is fantastic news for all the Blonde fans out there (and I know there are many, particularly those that go to blonde but don’t seem to be anywhere else in the scene)! Whether you’re into disco or old style blue and beats, Blonde will cater for your taste! 2008 will see Blonde mixing it up, drawing performers from all over the world.
Unfortunately for Blonde who usually packs out 3 levels of dance floors and the outside multi levelled courtyards, they couldn’t have chosen a worse weekend to begin the monthly event. Not only has the Melbourne Queer Film Festival kicked off, but Mardi Gras has just been and the Chillout Festival is coming up. For whatever reason, many of the girls that make Blonde what it is decided to stay away for this one.
Lack of numbers was evident from the time we walked up Corrs Lane; there a much thinner line then usual. However the usual routine remained, we were greeted by the friendly “blondes” at the ticket booth, were given our free champagne card and then entered. There was barely a line to stand in to retrieve my free champagne, with only a handful of people downstairs. The top floor was actually closed, leaving the second floor as the option for the remaining mass of people.
While the numbers were disappointing compared to usual, the night was still enjoyable. More dancing and less time waiting for drinks at the bar! One of the highlights being; the downstairs bartenders singing/ screaming Happy Birthday to a small crowd (which would probably never happen with more of a crowd).
The next dates for Blonde on the rocks are April 4th, May 2nd, June 6th, July 4th, August 1st, September 5th, October 3rd, November 7th and December 5th.
