Get ready for a fun night out at the theatre with Australia’s newest musical Altar Boyz. Playing a limited season at the Seymour Centre in Sydney then Melbourne. A 90 minute high energy show will leave you breathless and praying for more.

Five clean cut good looking boys spreading the word of god along with singing and dancing seem like an instant hit to me. This is exactly what Altar Boyz the musical is – a sure hit. Already proven to be an instant winner in New York and the UK now Australia has their turn to experience this great live show.

Music featured in this show is the same style of the Backstreet Boys and N Sync. While the target audience will not be devout Catholics anybody who wants a fun night out at the theatre will qualify.

The five members of the group are Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abe (he’s Jewish). Luke is the hip hop white guy who thinks’ he’s black and has some of the funniest moments in the show. Juan adds the Latino flavour to the group with his suave and sexy dance moves. Mark is the sweet and emotional boy band member. Matthew is the sexy stud of the group while lastly Abe is well….. Jewish.

The Altar Boyz are determined to cleanse the souls of Australia as they head off on their Raise the Praise tour. Through some sexy dance moves and pop gospel hits they believe they can achieve their goal. Following a series of confessions the boyz find out much more about each other and themselves than they bargained for. These secrets will jeopardize the future of the group.

Twelve poppy musical numbers are a lot to fit into 90 minutes, but the cast carried this well. The energy that is put into a show like this is really remarkable. It is a fast paced ride from the opening song, you actually feel like you are at a pop concert not a stage show. You will not want this show to end; it is easily a show that you could watch more than once. The crowd attending opening night confirms this.
