As host Michele A'Court said last night at the Lindauer Comedy Diva’s event, women are like the carbohydrates of comedy. Generally you can only intake one serving at a time, and due to the lack of women comedienne’s on many international festival bills, this is often all you are offered. However the Lindauer Comedy Diva’s allowed a great line up of many of New Zealand and the rest of the worlds best comediennes, including some young up and coming talent.
Michele A’Court was the perfect host, warming up the crowd with an initial routine that even involved constant retorts back at a rowdy gentleman in the front row who easily became her easiest and best target. After all, she was the one holding the microphone and the only person we heard was her.
Amongst the line up was local Penny Ashton, who had the crowd in stitches as she performed poetry written as a response to men who yell obscenities out from their cars, and gave us more of an insight into single like from her perspective than I would have cared for.
Josie Long from the UK also got quite a response from a joke about her dad and a potato gone bad. Other contributors included Emma Olsen, Irene Pink and headliner Janey Godley all the way from Glasgow, who was absolutely hilarious and did not disappoint.
Topped off with a gorgeous Lindauer goodie bag, the Lindauer Comedy Divas is a fantastic night out and a great way to support local and international female comedians.
