Generation Q will have updates throughout the festival and below are some of the highlights that we plan to cover. This page will be updated throughout the festival.
Liza With A Z
Monday June 8th 21.15 State Theatre
The brilliant film will screen for the first time on the big in Australia. This will be followed by a satellite question and answer session with the lady herself. Capturing Liza at her best this is one for mans not to miss.
44 Inch Chest
Friday June 5th 6.30 Dendy Opera Quays
Saturday June 13th 20.00 Greater Union
Nobody does gangster films like the British and 44 Inch Chest will no doubt generate a lot of interest. Starring John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Tom Wilkinson this film.
Accidents Happen
Saturday June 13th 14.55 State Theatre
Shot on location here in Sydney Accidents Happen stars Gena Davis. Set in the eighties this dark comedy about a mother and her troubles teenage son looks like an interesting look.
Cedar Boys
Monday June 8th 18.45 Greater Union
Wednesday June 10th 18.00 Greater Union
Another new Australian film shot on location in Sydney. Starring Rachel Taylor and a slew of new faces. This drama looks at being Lebanese and growing up on the wrong side of the law. This is a dark look into the European underbelly from a Sydney viewpoint. Also starring Jake Wall as a drug dealer, the basis of the story between good and bad. Cedar Boys is a hard hitting, full length feature with a twist.
Cheri
Friday June 12th 21.15 State Theatre
Saturday June 14th 2.15 State Theatre
This film looks like a lot of fun. With a cast like Michelle Pfeiffer and Kathy Bates this lush romantic period piece this will be a very popular film in this years festival.
The Maid
Thursday June 4th 18.30 State Theatre
Friday June 5th 10.00 State Theatre
This Spanish film is about a long-suffering maid who has been working for a family for over twenty years. As Raquel starts to get sick, the family hire a new maid to assist her. Shortly after we see the true feelings of this woman and her real agenda for the family that she works for. This was one the personal highlights for me this year. The Maid starts out as a thriller / drama but turns out to be a black comedy with a strong message about family and respect.
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee
Thursday June 4th 21.15 State Theatre
Saturday June 6th 18.00 Greater Union
This film features an outstanding cast including Robin Wright Penn, Keanu Reeves and Julianne Moore. Pippa is a happily married woman, but circumstances out of the blue place her in a retirement community in Connecticut. This funny and emotional film is having it’s Australian premier at the Sydney Film Festival. One of the funniest and emotional mix of film's that I have seen so far at the festival. This film will make you think long after you have left the cinema.
