Gone
Stars: Scott Mechlowicz, Amelia Warner, Shaun Evans
Universal Pictures
Starring the very cute Scott Mechlowicz from Eurotrip, Gone is a fast paced horror that will please many fans of this genre. Shot on location in Sydney and the outback, Gone features a good cast of up and comers including Amelia Warner and Shaun Evans.
Having been a huge fan of Hostel and Wolf Creek I was excited about seeing Gone as all films are somewhat similar. Pleased to learn that Gone was shot here in Australia, showing most scenes and locations what a beautiful country we have. The story begins with Alex and Sophie, a happy go lucky English couple backpacking around Australia.
Along the way they meet Taylor an American tourist who joins them on their travels. The fact that he has a car makes him seem more appealing to the young couple on their travels. As quickly as they meet Taylor he changes from a nice guy into a sneaky and sinister person. The two are forced to protect each other when we see a glimpse into what an evil person Taylor really is.
Taylor starts to take control and wants a permanent place in the couples travelling schedule. Added to this Alex notices Taylor's increasingly unhealthy interest in Sophie. Feelings of paranoia and deceit start to surface between the three all building up to a predictable outcome. When Alex is hurt in a car accident we see Taylor helping him to get well in his own special way.
While the storyline is predictable and expected, the core of the action takes place in a car. From this I felt somewhat claustrophobic throughout the second half of the film. All three leads give a decent performance however the weaker of the three being Warner as Sophie. If you want to see some amazing cinematography of Australia then see this on DVD.
