Hairspray the film is based on the Broadway musical which was based on the original John Waters film in 1998. The musical is an amazing look at the 1960’s in Baltimore. This is a time where the biggest show on TV is the Corney Collins show, a kind of a Young Talent Time variety show where normal people can become big stars.

John Travolta plays Edna Turnblad, adorning mother to her daughter Tracy. All Tracy and her friends want to do is appear on television to show the world they are talented beautiful people. The Corney Collins show is run by white folk who are determined to keep the show a white only show with no black people on it. A compromised is reached and once a month they have a Negro day.

Michelle Pfeiffer is amazing as the films villain, who still thinks that she is twenty one years old. The entire cast all did a super job. Queen Latifah played Maybelle Motormouth surprised me just how good she was. The soundtrack is filled with what you would expect from a Broadway musical. Loud and over the top and very camp musical numbers that will have you dancing in the aisles.
