Ester Blueburger is a sad little girl. She has no friends at school and seems uninterested in her life. Out of nowhere she meets popular rebel, Sunni. The two strike up an unlikely friendship and Ester’s world is about to change.
Growing up and being a victim of bullying at school is hard enough for any person. When you have a family who doesn’t understand you, it is even harder. Esther Blueburger is that little girl. Sunni is a refreshing addition to Esther’s life and the two become fast friends. Hanging out with Sunni’s biker mother played by Toni Colette turns out to be fun also.
Esther decides to attend Sunni’s school posing as a Swedish exchange student, leaving her posh school behind. At her new school Esther becomes one of the popular kids and in a short amount of time her view on the world changes dramatically. Esther is no longer a sweet victim that she was in the beginning but a tough and angry teenager.
While this film may be a little rough around the edges, I can see what the filmmakers were trying to achieve. Good for a weekend to pass a few hours.
