This decent thriller tells of a simple man who becomes a local hero, after saving them from a robbery. His bravery unlocks a hidden past that nobody knew existed. Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello star as Tom & Edie Stall.

It’s great to see a good thriller. Having head so much about this film I was pleased to finally see it. In a small midwestern town Tom is finishing up business for the day working in a local cafe. When two thugs try to rob Tom defends his business and himself by killing them instantly without a second thought. We now get the impression that there is far more to Tom’s simple life than meets the eye.

This story soon becomes national attention and Tom becomes a local hero. With this new found fame, Carl comes to visit Tom. He is a gangster from the big city who knows that Tom is hiding something. Edie starts to notice a strange change is her husbands behaviour after Carl visits him.

Tom knows that he has a dark past, and is trying his best to run away from it and change his life over. There comes a point where he knows he must face what sins he has committed in the past. The ending what somewhat predictable, but done in a very smart way.

If you like graphic violence and sex, you will love this film. Maria Bello is amazing, this is probably one of the more stronger roles she has done in her career. The acting is good along with the script. Look out for an appearance by William Hurt as well towards the films end.
