After running for five seasons from 1996 to 2000, satirical current affairs program Good News Week will be making its return to television from next month.
The show, which will once again be hosted by Paul McDermott, is returning following uncertainty over the exact airtime length of forthcoming major television series from the United States.
Channel Ten Chief Programming Officer David Mott said “A show like Good News Week (GNW) has never been more relevant. It was the show that arguably kicked off many successful variations of the same in recent years, and there is a notable void of this type of current affairs style comedy leading into 2008.
“The writers' strike in the US has highlighted the importance of formats that are home grown, durable and flexible, and rarely do you see a show like GNW where years later you watch and can say that still works. Not to mention the chance to work with Paul and the team at GNW again was just too tempting to pass up.”
“The return of Good News Week on TEN. Seriously? It’s going to be like a party at Corey Delaney’s place,” McDermott said on the announcement of Good News Week’s return.
Six personalities including two team captains which are yet to be announced, will aim to completely misrepresent news headlines (all in the name of good humour) on a weekly basis.
