Melissa George to play lesbian intern on Grey's

Reports are setting in that sexy Australian actress Melissa George will be steaming up the set of Grey's Anatomy. And she'll do it playing an intern who has a lesbian tryst with one of the leading characters.

George, 32, has pen poised to sign on as a regular to appear in the sixth series of the hit US show, as reported by ew.com.

The role would also reportedly see her as a budding medic with a crush on one of the show's established female characters, with early speculation pointing to either Callie (Sara Ramirez) or Erica (Brooke Smith).

Previous to this part, the Perth-born actress has portrayed a number of mostly guest roles on US shows in recent years, including the evil wife of Michael Vartan's character in Alias, following bit parts in Roar, Charmed and Monk.

And if she lands this role in Grey's Anatomy, it won't be the first time George has played a character attracted to the same sex either. She had a two-episode stint on Friends in 2003 as a lesbian nanny called Molly, and also played a rather obscure character in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, in which she locked lips with Laura Haring.

George became a household face in Australia as the love interest of Dieter Brummer in soapie Home and Away in the early '90s, before moving to overseas.

She lives in LA with husband Claudio Dabed and his 13-year-old daughter Martina.
