He was the bookies favourite, and now Australia’s favourite as well. Jack Chambers has tonight been crowned Australia’s favourite dancer, winning the inaugural series of So You Think You Can Dance Australia.
The show began with the final four contestants of the series; Chambers and Bobridge along with co-finalists Demi Sorono and Kate Wormald. After a series of dance routines featuring the series’ top twenty performers (plus a tap number from the Tap Dogs thrown in for good measure), along with musical performances from Damien Leith and Leona Lewis, Chambers and Bobridge were announced as the final two, before Chambers was announced as victor.
The finale was expected to be watched by several million viewers; similar to the show’s opening week numbers in which both episodes had peaks of more than 2 million viewers.
For winning So You Think You Can Dance, Chambers earned himself a ‘once in a lifetime’ dance experience in Los Angeles along with $200,000 cash.
But tonight’s finale was not the end for Chambers or Bobridge; the final ten contestants of the series will perform on a nationwide tour in July, with tickets going on sale on May 12.
Host Natalie Bassingthwaighte also confirmed that the smash series of 2008 would be returning to Network Ten next year, with auditions expected to commence in September.
