The couples are all new once again, no one’s safe from the vote of the public and we only have three more weeks of dancing goodness. They now have two routines a week to get through. I cant believe two more people are going home tomorrow night…
Did anyone else think Natalie tonight was looking very much like Delta from last week’s show? The hair extension, the wavy dress all screamed copycat! And yet she still can’t rile up the crowd, especially not with a line like “Can you guys wait (for the finale)?” expecting a scream back. I could hear the tumbleweeds across the stage.
Vanessa started alright on her and Rhys’ hip hop routine yet through the whole thing you could just tell this style of dance doesn’t sit well on her shoulders. I’m not sure whether it was the music or the moves but Rhys seemed like he was tired and wasn’t his usual funky self. It is fantastic to hear the (clearly teenage girl) crowd screech their applause at Rhys and Vanessa.
Catherine Zeta Jones from Chicago much?
Done up in a sexily tight Spider-man top was Jack while Kate played Mary Jane. Doing the quickstep in this outfit to Michael Buble’s version of the Spider-man theme was something completely unexpected! Despite Jack’s obvious struggle with the lifts, the whole routine blew me (and Jason) out of the water. Their steps were absolutely flawless and totally in time. The stand out performance of the night for me (and not just because I want Jack’s top).
Can I just ask: what the hell is ‘house’ dance? Well Demi and Henry got it. And it looked like a faster, happier version of hip hop. The first half of the routine though was just really messily. I could not watch them together as their moves were scratchy at best, so my eyes settled on Demi as she moved better to the music. Henry appeared to place too much emphasis on keeping a daggy smile on his face. The second half picked itself up as they both aced the clapping to the music. Overall, Demi came off the better dancer in this routine while it seems the wheels are finally falling off the Henry wagon…
Rhiannon and Graeme had to ‘whip it real good’ with their routine. Again, what the hell is burlesque as a dance genre? I thought it was just confined to strip clubs and caberet shows. Rhiannon with a wig hmmm, Catherine Zeta Jones from Chicago much? Matt was a bit presumptuous in saying they weren’t old enough to have experienced such a sexual genre, how does he know what they have and haven’t done sexually? I thought it was a strong, electrically charged performance and having Rhiannon as the dominated partner was completely believable, being the little sex minx that she is.
Oh my God. After seeing Jack and Kate’s second performance, I can safely say they absolutely owned tonight! A hip hop Singing in the Rain choreographed by Supple that ripped up the floor had my mouth gaping throughout. I could feel the water as if it really were covering the stage as they slid on their backs and feet. With their matching suits, it was as if a mirror had been placed between them. It was utterly mesmerising… All three judges didn’t have one bad thing to say and a standing ovation from the back row surely equals one of the best performances of the entire show. The second stand out performance of the night for me!
Demi and Henry’s second dance was a feel good love song to Panic at the Disco with an amazing full press at the end that Patrick Swayze would have been proud of. As has been said all along, Demi can fool anyone into thinking she can dance in any genre which is great for someone who hasn’t got any official training.
I had a lot of issues with the camera work during Rhys and Vanessa’s dance. How can anyone judge their dancing if you can’t see one of the dancers? Vanessa was out of shot for about 5 seconds there which just doesn’t sit in a contest where we have to vote for our favourite dancer. Moving on from that, I love the musical West Side Story and wholly got into the upbeat tempo of “America”. The routine, despite being exciting to watch, was a little lacking when in comparison to the same song in the movie. I have to agree with the judges regarding Vanessa’s acting in that it was just too polite and weak.
Lastly, Rhiannon and Graeme got a cute little jazz routine (that had Rhiannon looking hot in black and white) which both dancers just gobbled up. The synchronisation, the clean cut moves and the sensuality together just raised these two out of any trouble they may have been in. As choreography was concerned, the levels at the beginning were so refreshing to see. A fantastic end to the night.
Tonight’s show featured some of the best performed routines I have seen of any SYTYCD series and I am gonna have a huge hole to fill once it is over. 5 shows left!
