Altar Boyz in Melbourne

Altar Boyz-2
L-R: Jeremy Brennan, Andrew Koblar, Cameron McDonald, Dion Billios and Tim Maddren are the Altar Boyz

What do you get when you take the mickey out of the boy bands of the 90's? The answer is simple. The hilarious Altar Boyz, which has made a smooth transition from New York en route via Sydney to the stage at the Athanaeum Theatre in Melbourne. The show chronicles (for want of a better word) the final concert of the boy's Raise the Praise 2008 tour. This is a leave your brain at the door and just be entertained kind of show, though don't let that stop you.

The material is absolutely gut busting. With moments like "Jesus called me on my iPhone" and "Girl, you make me wanna wait" this show will have you in stitches. The boys, Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham played respectively by Cameron McDonald, Dion Billios, Tim Maddren, Jeremy Brennan and Andrew Koblar are the entire package with their pop quality voices and their good looks. They look and feel like a boy band.

The choreography is electrifying and the boys endure a 90 minute workout, on stage for the entire show, which must be truly exhausting, however they keep their focus and energy without dropping the pastiche for a second.

The biggest thing to keep in mind is that the show parodies boy bands and not religion, the show just happens to be about a religious boy band, which makes for a highly entertaining night out and with $25 rush tickets, you won't be disappointed!
