Drag Yourself to Priscilla and Help ACON

Priscilla for ACON

Want to be queen for a night? Or how about a good Samaritan for a couple of nights?

Priscilla – Queen of the Desert: The Musical is returning to the Lyric Theatre at Sydney’s Star City and the producers of the show are offering members of the community two unique opportunities to help raise money for ACON’s unfunded health promotion work.

Firstly, the producers have generously donated to ACON 100 A Reserve tickets for the very first return performance in Sydney on Tuesday 7 October at 8pm. You can see the show and support ACON at the same time. Tickets are $100. For more info or to make a booking, call David on 9206 2110 or email Here

Secondly, ACON has been given permission to collect donations after every one of the 120 performances of the show during it’s return Sydney season (Oct 7 – Jan 18). This has the potential to generate a significant amount of money for ACON – but only with the help of lots of volunteers.

Eight people are required after each performance to collect donations and ACON is hoping that members of the community will be able to lend a hand.

The show is performed every night from Tuesday to Saturday with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Each collection takes about 20 minutes. Volunteers are required from 10:20pm for the evening performances, from 3:20pm for the Wednesday matinee, 4:20pm for the Saturday matinee and from 7:20pm for the Sunday performance.

People are welcome to volunteer for one shift or for one hundred – we’re happy to get as much help as we can. A special online calendar makes it easy for volunteers to select which shifts they’d like to do. For all the details, visit here

ACON Events Coordinator David Wilkins says he hopes people will help out by participating in one or both activities.

“This is a really amazing opportunity and we thank the Priscilla producers for their generosity and support,” he says. “It’s also an wonderful opportunity for people to have fun with their friends and help out ACON at the same time.

“We know it’s a big ask to come out after 10pm on a week night to collect donations so we’re suggesting that friends make it a weekly post-dinner event where they catch up for a meal and then head on over to the theatre to do the collection. It only takes 20 minutes and it will make a huge difference to ACON’s work in the community.”
