Emotions from the ex

emotion

There are very few ex-boyfriends that I have kept in irregular contact with since our respective relationships have ended; it’s always minimal due to the fact that you have actually broken up with them for a reason, and on most occasions you choose not to relive it. But with that one out of a certain bunch that you do speak to occasionally, there is always a trigger to remind you that things did get bitter between you and that not all things are forgotten. Why do exes always show emotion when they either don’t have to, or when it’s not warranted?

One particular person that I dated a few years back is the only person that I currently consider to be a complete and utter asshole. Within 24 hours of us ending our ‘fling’ (or whatever it is that you want to call it – needless to say, he ended it over MSN; that should say it all right there), not only did he go to the liberty of raving about how wonderful single life was, he also managed to drop his IQ by 60 of his 70 points by blatantly acting like a six year old during my presence in a public spectrum. Why bother? Deep down, you know it’s going to bite you in the ass. But since I’ve been there (and frankly didn’t enjoy it at all – him or his ass), I certainly wouldn’t be going back there for seconds. (Hhhmmm, bitter much?)

Something which I’ve also come to dread is the reuniting of someone you’ve dated amongst a group of friends. You just have no idea how you’re going to handle the situation, but you finger that the past will remain locked up to a certain degree due to the fact that you’re not alone. But when it can’t be avoided, it’s gloves off for one and all.

After previously only having one date with a person who you just know a second date is never going to happen, communication with them at such events is never going to be pretty, especially when they down shot after shot and hang around like a bad smell, particularly when another attendee attempts to set the two of you up. The apology afterwards is always nice as you know that from then on it is solely you that has the power, but then you realise that they shouldn’t have even gotten to that stage to begin with.

There are a number of words that start with ex; exacerbate, except, exclude, excrescence, ex-boyfriend. Hand in hand, don’t you think?
