* Celebrating the efforts of the gay and lesbian community of Brisbane
* Presented by Brisbane Pride Festival
On Saturday 6 June, Brisbane Pride Festival will host the Queen's Birthday Community Awards, a gala event to be held at the Judith Wright Centre, Fortitude Valley.
Scott Hampson, President of Brisbane Pride Festival, said the Queen's Birthday Community Awards aim to celebrate the efforts of community groups and individuals who promote the acceptance and rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in Brisbane and throughout the country.
"We felt it was time to start celebrating the fantastic efforts of people who not only stand up for gay rights but are actively campaigning for equality on a daily basis," said Scott. "This includes everyone from political activists and business people to entertainers and sports stars who are all great role-models in their everyday life."
Special guest MC, Courtney Act, will host the event with special guest performances by Maude Boat, Pearly Black and Brisbane institution, Dame Sybil Von Thorndyke, with more entertainers to be announced.
The final nominees for each category have been selected and are listed in the file below. To vote for your favourite, visit the Brisbane Pride Festival website - www.pridebrisbane.org.au
