Homophobic Westboro Baptist church in Kansas said it intends to protest Heath Ledger's memorial service with signs claiming the actor died and is in Hell because he played a gay character in “Brokeback Mountain.”
Shirley Phelps-Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka said that she and other members will picket Ledger’s United States memorial services, not those held in his native Australia.
“You cannot live in defiance of God,” she said. “He got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it’s OK to be gay.”
A press release circulated by the church references Leviticus 18:22 in the Bible, which states that “thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
“Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there,” the Westboro Baptist announcement says.
Started 1955, the Topeka, Kan.-based church has conducted over 34,000 peaceful demonstrations opposing the homosexual lifestyle, according to their Web site, GodHatesFags.com.
The organization runs various Web sites, including GodHatesAmerica.com and others that condemn lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, Muslims, Roman Catholics and Jews as well as certain nationalities, according to Wikipedia.
The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies the church as a hate group and the organization is monitored by the Anti-Defamation League, according to its Wikipedia entry.
Phelps-Roper said the church group will also be picketing the Academy Awards this year.
Both the printed release and Phelps-Roper’s verbal diatribe about Ledger were rife with homophobic slurs. She said that those who call her and other members of Westboro Baptist Church bigots must also think God is a bigot.
“God hates fags,” she said. “The wrath of God has been revealed before the eyes of this nation with the death of Heath Ledger. … This nation worships the dead almost as much as they worship their filthy sex acts. America is doomed.”

Shirley Phelps-Roper needs to do something better with her 15 mins of fame like uhhh preach about wrose things going on in the world. and those woh are follow her, It’s obvious they’ve never read a Bible in their life. God hates SIN. He does NOT hate PEOPLE! There is absolutely nothing that can be accomplished by picketing a funeral. Also not only was Heath in a movie about gays he also betrated as a badboy in high in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. Then in A Knights Tale he lies about who he really is...thats a sin isn't it?? If someone you loved died would you want to morn they're death? and LET GOD JUDGE THEM?!? quit juging and practice what you preach sweetie. I am a bapist christain and i most certain not agree with your judgements to someone who is gone, and why say someone is serving eternaity in hell when God would never do that like i said before GD LOVES EVERYONE!! NOT THE SINS!!! there are other actors and actresses who coment same sins in movies, they do it for entertainment. But the only thing i can do for you is pray for you and heath ledger and his family. they have been through enough, so please find something else to do with you life. God Bless.

To the so called, self-proclaimed "followers of God",
You should be more then ashamed. If you wish to use quotes from the bible then i suggest you do more then neglect the other information passed through its many teachings. John 8:7 and i quote: "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her".
If any of the members within your church claim to be without sin then the very lie itself would be considered sin and then be in turn defying Gods wishes. Commandment number 9 reads: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor'.
Your organisation even defies the very basic of teachings from the ten commandments. 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth'. However you choose to condem others instead of reaching out and teaching the truth of god:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.
To hate and to persecute was not the will of the Lord God and Jesus Christ. You have turned what was supposed to be a guide for living life to that of which God wanted to a book of lies and hatred.
At no point in time did God hate any individual, and at no point in time did God give any man the the right to decide who was to enter heaven and who was to be sent to the depths of hell.
I have never heard of such a discriminatory organization that is so defiant and so incoherent of their own true teachings and beliefs.
I want to STAB them! =D!!!
