The Qantas Film & TV Awards kicked off in style the evening at Auckland's historic Civic Theatre in Queen St. The media and on-lookers alike waited with baited breathe as New Zealand's top film and television celebrities began strolling down the red carpet.
The likes of Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings), John Campbell (Campbell Live), The Shortland St and Outrageous Fortune Cast and their partners lit up the red carpet and earned a lot of attention from the crowd.
Proceedings got under way with a brief collage introduction of some of the actors and programmes up for awards. A quick word from our sponsors and cue the lights for the MC.
And so the scene is set for a fantastic night of celebration and acknowledgment of some of NZ's top celebrities.
Having been sponsored by Qantas, the night took on a “airline” theme, exchanging the standard and drab “please turn off your mobile phones” for a witty and hilarious flight attendant pre-amble, including what to do ‘in the unlikely event you should win an award”, “the inflation ego-jacket” for those who don’t win an award, and alcohol dropping from the overhead compartment in the event of extreme boredom during the show.
The Pilot for the night is Oliver Driver, a New Zealand actor, director, broadcaster and television presenter. After the traditional intro speeches from esteemed executives and acknowledgment of the awards major sponsor, Qantas, the night is underway!
