What does Freedom mean to you?
The 19th Annual Brisbane Pride Festival is right around the corner and this year organisers are inviting everyone to come along and tell us what 'Freedom' means to you?
Following a year of much progress and a few minor set backs, the GBLT community of Brisbane will once again come together on Saturday 14 June at Musgrave Park, South Brisbane, with festivities kicking off from midday.
Scott Hampson, President of Brisbane Pride says the theme 'Freedom' is particularly relevant to the GBLT community for 2008.
"GBLT issues have been front page news this year and this is great as long as it results in positive action,” Scott said.
"In 2008, Freedom is about acknowledging how far we have come and what we still have to achieve. It is about promoting the gay and lesbian community and challenging people to stand up and be visible," Scott said.
"Freedom is the confidence to stand up and be proud of who you are and to fight for equality in all areas of our lives," Scott said.
The 'Freedom' theme will permeate throughout the celebrations with performances by Fem Inc., The Lesbian Super Group and a special guest appearance by Brecik.
So if you are proud of your Freedom, come along and join the 15,000 strong crowd and enjoy the fun and frivolity that is the Brisbane Pride Festival Fair Day.
