A twenty-six year old man from Darlinghurst in Sydney has died just 200m away from the finishing line while competing in today’s City2Surf.
The man collapsed as he ran towards the finish line at Bondi Beach at around 11am this morning with other participants running around him.
Emergency crews were immediately on the scene but were unable to revive the runner.
The twenty-six year old was one of a record 70,000 participants in this year’s race, which for the first time in over a decade was won by a male Australian. Regular overseas competitors are currently competing in the Beijing Olympics.
