Following a weekend of conflicting reports and mixed perceptions, the community vigil scheduled to take place on Australia Day in Sydney will go ahead as originally planned.

After Ben Veerkamp’s stepping down from the event, the ‘reclaim the right’ vigil is now being organized by Brendan Lloyd.

The date and time of the vigil is unchanged; Saturday 26 January from 4.00pm at Harmony Park, Surry Hills (near Surry Hills Police Station).

The vigil had previously been reported as cancelled following mainstream media reports of the promotional posters causing alleged racial tensions. The poster has since been withdrawn from promoting the vigil.

Organizers hope that the upcoming vigil will be a peaceful protest against homophobia.

For further information on the vigil, Brendan Lloyd can be contacted through this link.
