The boyfriend of missing Cronulla man Matthew Leveson has been arrested and charged with his murder. Michael Atkins, 45 of Cronulla was last seen with Matthew Leveson leaving ARQ nightlub in Sydney on September 23 last year. The couple had been living in Atkins apartment until Leveson's disappearance last year.
Mr Leveson's car was found a few days later at Waratah Oval, Sutherland, a short distance from his home.
At a news conference today, Miranda local area commander Superintendent Mark Hiron said the investigation was not over because Mr Leveson's body had not been found.
"Matthew's mum and dad have been to hell and back over this. There's no closure for them [because] we don't know where Matthew is," he said.
"If anybody has any idea where Matthew may be we need to hear from you - no evidence or no piece of information is insignificant.
"This investigation will not conclude until we find Matthew."
Superintendent Hiron said a strong circumstantial case had been built that led to the arrest of the 45-year-old.
"A whole series of small pieces of information came together to lead us to the conclusion that there is no other reasonable hypothesis."
